The Festival of the Longest Day is rapidly approaching its fourteenth year, and its final incarnation under current management.
The schedule for 2009:
Longest Day promises to be the biggest beach ultimate tournament in Australia in 2009.
The cost is $200 per team. If you register and pay before Monday 30 November, this is discounted to $160 per team.
Apart from AFDA fees, this includes a lavish all-you-can-eat summer fruit smorgasbord of mangos, cherries, peaches, bananas, nectarines, plums, apricots, grapes, watermelon and lychees, plus rolls and dip to help tide you over. It also helps us to put on the other events of the weekend. The more you participate, the more value you get.
As usual, we will be using online registration only. Registration will open at 8am on Thursday 19 November, and we are limiting the competition to 16 teams initially so get in early. We will hopefully open up another 4 spots if we can manage it, so register even if there are already 16 teams registered.
All rosters must include at least 4 men and 3 women. Play is five-a-side with a 3M-2F gender mix.
Last year the tournament was filled quickly, and we had to turn away some teams. So again this year the registration process will be tightly controlled. Please read the following carefully.
Team fees are due by Monday 30 November. Teams registering and paying by that date will attract the $40 discount on the $200 team fee.
Payment is by electronic transfer or branch deposit to the following account:
| account name | Mr Thomas Alexander Brennan |
| bank | Westpac |
| branch | Lane Cove |
| bsb | 032085 (but see below) |
| account # | 560800 |
When making a transfer, you MUST include the Team # and the Team Name from the online rego. There have been some problems in the past with rejected transfers from other Westpac accounts - if this is the case, try using BSB 732085 instead.
Note that the tournament may be limited to 16 teams, so you need to pay your fees as early as possible to confirm your place.
The tournament is located adjacent to the ocean entrance of Narrabeen Lagoon, at the very northern end of Narrabeen Beach. Ocean St crosses the lagoon entrance and comes off Pittwater Rd.
Car: There are pay-and-display car parks both north and south of the bridge over the lagoon entrance.
Bus: Ring 13 15 00 for bus timetable information from Chatswood, Wynyard or Manly. Alternatively, look up bus & ferry information on the web.
Last year's production included a lavish smorgasbord of tropical and summer fruits: mangos, cherries, peaches, nectarines, bananas, oranges, watermelon and more. There will also be rolls and dip available.
There will be a Longest Huck Golf Tournament held on Friday night (19th Dec) at St Leonards Park, North Sydney (where North Sydney Oval is). First tee is located near the footbridge across the expressway in the South-Eastern corner of the park. Tee-off time is 8pm.
Percy's (cnr Carlow & Miller St - see map) conveniently has a bottleshop, and is located near the 10th tee.
Bring a frisbee and a stubbie cooler.
It will help us if you can register beforehand. Entry is free as part of the overall rego.
You shouldn't be driving! Catch a train to North Sydney station and walk up Miller St to North Sydney Oval and the pub.
We are heading to the Narrabeen Sands Hotel for a meal and drinks straight after the tournament.
Play is mixed 5-a-side, with 2 women and 3 men on the field at all times.
Rosters will not be accepted unless they include at least 3 women and 4 men. Remember, running on the sand can be very tiring!
The fields are smaller than usual (approx 40m x 25m with 5m endzones) and there will be a 10 metre brick. Pulls landing and staying in field must be played where they are picked up or caught.
Stall count is 7.
"Sunday Rules" apply - you may drop the pull without causing a turnover.
Games will be to 9 with a time cap of 27 minutes. There will be no time cap rule - games finish on the hooter.
Once registration opens, we will update this with teams from this year. Your place will not be confirmed until it says so on this page.
